I’m the gnome behind the magic here at OOMHz Cacao, born and raised in Austin, TX—and don’t let my size fool you. I may be knee-high to a cacao pod, but I’ve been around longer than your great-great-grandshroom.
I’m what you might call your frequency guide. I show up when you’re dragging *ss, doubting yourself, or disconnected—ready to give you a wink, a wise word, or a swift kick in the pants (lovingly, of course). My job? To help you tune in to what really matters. Belonging. Reconnection. Discovery. And yes—damn good cacao.
I pop up when you need me most… usually uninvited, but somehow always welcome.

Meet the couple behind OOMHz Cacao: Marinés Hernandez & David Hutchison
Rigorous careers with long hours and a growing appreciation for holistic health brought us to seek better, cleaner ways to feed our minds and bodies. Stress, caffeine, and disconnection had become our top enemies. What began as a fun and delicious way to add game-changing mushroom extracts into our daily routine—while stepping away from coffee—quickly became something deeper: a source of grounding, energy, and connection.
David, a lifelong chocolate lover, intuitively knew clean dark chocolate was the natural vessel for functional fungi. Marinés, who had never been fond of chocolate outside of the Mas Mas bars she grew up with in the Dominican Republic, felt something shift the first time she tasted one of David’s early recipes. It wasn’t just chocolate—it was comforting, inspiring, and alive, carrying the power to spark joy, ground us, and bring people together.
Fueled by our love for Austin, TX, we set out to locally handcraft products that could nourish and uplift our community the way Austin has uplifted us. Thus, OOMHz Cacao was born with a focus on the powerful synergy between functional mushrooms and ceremonial cacao. Our worlds of nutrition and mycology merged together into the brand—embodied by our cowboy-booted gnome, whose whimsical wisdom (and blunt honesty) remind us all to reconnect with what matters.
For us, this journey goes far beyond building a sustainable business. It’s about carrying a message of belonging, reconnection, and discovery into the world. Join us (along with Myc, the gnome) on an adventure to rediscover the magic of slowing down, tuning in, and savoring life in its fullness.
